Sue is the Associate Director responsible for the Training Department at the FPA and manages all the activities of this section.
Sue’s background is in the development, delivery and management of vocational training and qualifications. Prior to joining the FPA, Sue spent five years as Director of Business Training with a multi-sector training provider, leading a large team of trainers who developed and delivered training and qualifications, largely on an outreach basis to meet employer needs. In the preceding years she was Departmental Manager for a busy programme of Further and Higher Education vocational course provision, developing training to meet employer and awarding body requirements.
Sue has extensive experience of successful tendering, contract delivery and key account management, having worked with global, national and local companies /organisations on training needs analysis and skills development across a broad range of sectors. She has worked closely with UK and European funding providers to secure training subsidies for employers within areas such as apprenticeships, Train To Gain and learndirect. In 2006 Sue successfully completed an MBA with Bath University.
Sue has been directing the FPAs Training team since 2006 and has been an active member of key sectoral groups such as the Fire and Rescue Sector Occupational Committee within Skills for Justice; CFOA’s Fire Safety Qualifications Working Group; IOSH Fire Specialist Group and Skills for Security Systems Sector Consultation Group. She took an active role in the 2009 review of the Fire Safety National Occupational Standards and associated development of new units for the Qualifications and Credit Framework.
